Tattooing Techniques

Tattoo art is thousands years old Each region has its own tattooing techniques Different tattooing techniques have evolved over a long period of time Diverse climatic conditions, cultures and ethos are the main reason behind numerous tattooing techniques Though techniques may differ but all achieve the same goal of creating tattoo marks on the body In western countries Tattoo artists use a machine called tattoo gun This tattoo machine helps the artists to work at a fast rate These tattoo guns can make anything from fine lines to broad backgrounds Firstly the tattoo artists pull the skin tight for making outlines for designs Thereafter they color the images according to need.

  • Tattooing requires a lot of patience as even a small tattoo can take hours to complete In Samoa Tattoo artists use a hand powered instrument to make tattoos on the body These tools are made of organic substances such as a mallet and combs made from pig teeth The ink they use in tattooing is a mixture of water and the ashes of candlenuts or burnt lama nuts The combs are dipped in the dye and are struck by the mallet to imprint the skin This is indeed one of the most interesting traditional tattooing techniques around Irezumi Is the Japanese traditional tattooing technique.
  • Irezumi is also a hand powered method of tattooing Though western style machines are being used for the purpose but the depth and precision these traditional machines provide is simply awesome Tattoos created by traditional method are unique and can't be reproduced by a machine The most important feature of this method is colorful pictures of dragons and Samurai

Skull Tattoos: Meditations on the Dark SideIt used to be the case the skull tattoos were only for certain ‘kinds’ of people – those who, for one reason or another, wanted a dark, threatening tattoo image. For instance, skull tattoos were – and still are – common prison or gang related tattoos. Those heavily into Goth culture might also want a skull image. But the average person? Probably not. Skull images are, first and foremost, associated with death, and we are a society that prefers not to confront death until we absolutely have to!

That’s not universally true, however. Skull images have been a motif used in a lot of classic art, denoting the fact that time passes and we all die. Or think of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations – complete with decorative sugar skeletons and skull cookies! A skull is macabre, but it’s also more versatile than you might think.
Of course, a certain percentage of skull tattoos do belong to people who are attracted to the ‘dark side’, either as a function of their lifestyle or as a philosophical interest. Skull tattoo designs come in all shapes and sizes, however, and some are surprisingly attractive.
After all, another reason why the skull image is so popular is that its dramatic lines lend themselves well to art, and that includes tattoo art.Of course, some skull tattoos are, clearly, meant to be macabre.
Take, for instance, the ‘grim reaper’ figure – a tall, hooded figure with a skull face. Sometimes the skeleton is dressed differently – he may be wearing more casual attire, or holding a guitar, for example. These images blend humor with a prevailing feeling of hopelessness or impending doom.Lately, however, we have been seeing skulls used as a decorative border image for tribal or fantasy tattoos.
The skull image is invariably a bit shocking – it’s meant to shock. But in tattoo designs that are not overtly dark, and that incorporate a variety of images and styles, the skull motif becomes just one part of the overall complexity or ‘texture’ of the tattoo art. Skull tattoos are, if anything, gaining in popularity. We might see this as an indication that society is coming to grips with the idea of death, and there may be a certain validity to that argument. Certainly, the image is an appropriate one for tattooing, as the whole idea of a tattoo is that it will stay with you until you die, a permanent part of your mortal body.
